தமிழகத்தில் ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் அக்டோபர் 1-ந்தேதி முதல் டிசம்பர் 31-ந்தேதி வரை வடகிழக்கு பருவமழை காலம் ஆகும். இந்த நிலையில் கடந்த ஆண்டு வடகிழக்கு பருவமழை சற்று தாமதமாக அக்டோபர் 29-ந் தேதி தொடங்கி டிசம்பர் 31-ந் தேதியுடன் நிறைவடைந்தது. இந்த காலக்கட்டத்தில் வழக்கமாக 440.30 மி.மீட்டர் மழை பதிவாவது வழக்கம். இந்த முறை வழக்கத்தைவிட ஒரு சதவீதம் அதிகம் மழை கிடைத்துள்ளது.

 வடகிழக்கு பருவமழை காலம் டிசம்பர் 31-ம் தேதியுடன் முடிவடைந்தாலும், அதன் தாக்கம் தென் மாநிலங்களில் தொடர்ந்தது. இந்த நிலையில் தமிழகம், புதுச்சேரி பகுதிகளில் இருந்து வடகிழக்கு பருவமழை இன்று விலகுவதற்கான சாத்தியக்கூறுகள் உள்ளதாக சென்னை வானிலை ஆய்வு மையம் தெரிவித்துள்ளது. 

 இது தொடர்பாக, வெளியிடப்பட்டுள்ள செய்திக்குறிப்பில், வடகிழக்கு பருவமழை தமிழகம், புதுச்சேரி, காரைக்கால் அதை ஒட்டிய கடலோர ஆந்திரா, ராயல் சீமா, தெற்கு உள் கர்நாடகா மற்றும் கேரளப் பகுதிகளில் இருந்து இன்று (12-ம் தேதி) விலகுவதற்கான சாத்தியக்கூறுகள் காணப்படுகின்றன என்று தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

  In this regard, in a press release issued, it has been informed that the Northeast Monsoon is likely to withdraw from Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal adjoining Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Royal Seema, South Interior Karnataka and Kerala today (12th).
